His life changed when FBI Special Agent Bilkins and Customs Enforcement Agent Markham offered him a deal: clear his record in exchange for going undercover against drug lord Carter Verone. Brian agreed, choosing his estranged friend Roman Pearce as his partner despite Roman's initial distrust over Brian's role in his prior arrest. To canonically explain Vin Diesel's absence, the short film The Turbo Charged Prelude was released before principal photography began in September 2002. Walker and Tyrese Gibson, who played Roman, were confirmed for the project by 2002. During filming, which concluded that December across Miami and southern Florida locations like Seven Mile Bridge, Brian and Roman acquired their signature muscle cars after a test run where they retrieved a package from Verone's car in an impound lot using GPS-tagged Mitsubishis.

The undercover mission required Brian and Roman to transport "dirty money" for Carter Verone while secretly working with undercover agent Monica Fuentes. At the marina, Verone revealed he knew they were under surveillance and intended to kill them. Enrique moved to kill Brian, but Roman arrived, incapacitating him with an improvised ejector seat using nitrous oxide. The pair then boarded Verone's yacht after Brian crashed his Yenko Camaro off a ramp onto the deck. With Verone subdued, Markham cleared their records, and Brian and Roman decided to stay in Miami to open a garage together, funded by a cut of the cash they secretly kept.
