Brian was born on July 14, 1978, in Barstow, California, raised by his mother with little memory of his father. He attended high school with Roman Pearce, and the pair dated the same women. After earning his driver's permit, Brian survived a five-car pile-up on Interstate 40 involving his mother. Two months into his tenure as an LAPD officer, he was involved in an incident where Roman was arrested for housing stolen cars; although Brian had no part in it, Roman blamed him and resented his association with law enforcement. In The Fast and the Furious, Brian investigated semi-trailer hijackings using black Honda Civics with green neon underglow as a lead. He infiltrated Dom's crew after losing a race to him, then helped Dom escape police. He organized a SWAT raid on Johnny Tran's house but found no evidence against Tran except minor charges, leaving only Dom as a suspect. Brian discovered Dom's guilt when he saw Mia weeping and Dom fleeing Race Wars. After revealing his identity to Mia, they raced to stop another robbery, where Letty was injured rolling her car and Vincent was shot by a truck driver carrying firearms. Brian saved Vincent but revealed he was a cop to Dom. Later, Tran and an accomplice attacked the Toretto house in a drive-by shooting, killing Jesse. Brian fatally shot Tran while Dom ran the accomplice off the road. In their final confrontation, Brian chased and raced Dom, who won narrowly before hitting a truck. Leaving Los Angeles to avoid arrest after helping Dominic escape, Brian traveled across Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas in The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious. Using a red Dodge Stealth, he won every street race until police notified of his presence forced him to ditch the car at a San Antonio motel. An unknown woman (Minka Kelly), knowing who he was, gave him a ride to a used car lot where he purchased a green Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. He modified it with new rims and repainted it silver, continuing eastbound to win more races before reaching Jacksonville and heading south toward Miami. In 2 Fast 2 Furious, now living in Miami, Brian worked part-time as a street racer for Tej Parker. Facing jail time for destruction of property and aiding Dominic Toretto, US Customs Agent Markham offered him a deal: infiltrate drug kingpin Carter Verone in exchange for a clean record. Brian demanded his own driver and recruited childhood friend Roman Pearce, whom he convinced to accept the deal despite their rocky history. Alongside undercover agent Monica Fuentes, they entered Verone's organization. After learning Verone intended to kill them upon mission completion, Brian and Roman orchestrated a "scramble" in a garage with help from Tej and Suki, switching cars outfitted with ejection seats. Brian jumped onto Verone's boat after beating up his henchman, leading to Verone's arrest. The pair walked away with pockets full of drug money, planning to open a high-performance garage.
